“The Bridge”, ACME 40th Anniversary Commission (2013)

Taking as my starting point ACME’s new studios at the High House Production Park in Purfleet, Essex. Purfleet is an area explored with artist Jock McFadyen and writer Iain Sinclair between 2001 and 2004. On visiting the new complex and studios – bright, beautiful blots on a relentlessly grim and grimy landscape – I was struck by the dominant view of Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, a constant reminder that even amongst the shiny new structures, parterre and sensitively converted barns of High House, the legacy of the industrial and post-industrial is ever present.
